Download Rainbow by Vernor Vinge for free.

November 29, 2007 – 4:02 pm

You can now download the whole of this book (which normally costs £5.99)  for free from the authors website,

http://vrinimi.org/rainbowsend.htm

Could be quite handy if you have an ipod that you could copy it onto.

“A novel with one foot in the future - the latest science fiction thriller from the four-time Hugo Award winner.
Robert Gu is a world-renowned poet and recovering Alzheimer’s patient. The world that he remembers was much as we know it today. Now, as he regains his faculties through a new cure, he discovers that the world has changed. He is seventy-five years old, though by a medical miracle he looks much younger, and he’s starting over, for the first time unsure of his poetic gifts. Living with his son’s family, he has no choice but to learn how to cope with a new information age in which the virtual and the real are a seamless continuum. But the consensus reality of the digital world is available only if, like his thirteen-year-old granddaughter Miri, you know how to wear your wireless access and to see the digital context through smart contact lenses.

With knowledge comes risk. When Robert begins to re-train at Fairmont High, he unwittingly becomes part of a wide-ranging conspiracy to use technology as a tool for world domination. This conspiracy is something that baffles even the most sophisticated security analysts, including Robert’s son and daughter-in law, two top people in the U.S. military. And even Miri, in her attempts to protect her grandfather, may be entangled in the plot …’In the grand tradition of William Gibson and Neal Stephenson, Vernor Vinge just turned the future upside-down in Rainbow’s End’ Charles Stross.”

The Peazyshop Lottery

September 30, 2007 – 10:31 am

Ok thought I would try a small lottery on the Forum this week. All you have to do to enter is choose 6 numbers from 1 - 49 and enter your chosen numbers in as a comment below this posting along with your email address and name.

Next Saturday I will pick 6 numbers and the person with the most correct numbers will win £10 in Sainsburys vouchers.

If 2 people win then I will do a tie break question, if no-one wins it will roll onto next week.

Good Luck

This competition has now closed, I have drawn 6 numbers at random the numbers are 16 18 24 27 36 39. By my calculations this means we have 2 winners which will go to a tie-break question - Lisa and Laura Sanders. please visit the forum to get the tiebreak question.

Make your entry using the comment form below adding your name, answer and of course your email address so I can contact you if you win!

The competition will close next Thursday the 13th of September, if there are 2 winners I will think up a tie-breaker question you need to guess. If there are no winners I will chose the person that has chosen a place nearest to where the image was taken.

If you don’t have Google earth, its free to download and amazing to use- download

Good Luck everyone!
